What is Steam Punk?
Steampunk is hard to define as nobody can agree what it is exactly, but I read a lovely explanation on the web that said you could say it is what the past would look like if the future had happened sooner.
However, there are some things which are usually included:
Steampunk is set in Victorian England (around 1800’s), although strangely there is also a whole sub-culture where it is set in the Wild West.
Steampunk technology is steam-powered. It often features anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations and machinery.
Prominent elements are sic-fi and fantasy.
Clothing is heavily influenced by Victorian clothing. Add to the mix a smattering of gothic, a top hat, goggles and a handmade gadget and there you have it!
Gears have become a bit of an icon and is recognised as a symbol of steampunk.
